we were stupid. we booked a package thru hotwire.com. 7 nights/8 days about 1300$ per person. You can definately get much cheaper price renting from the owner.

Another advantage is that you can get a detailed look at the unit. We were lucky that our unit is OK (52D)but it is totally a hit or miss...

I highly recommend the Destination Resorts at Wailea. We stayed at the Ekahi Village with oceanfront pool and "private" beach that you need the pool key to access (it is still a public beach but since non-residents have to park so far away...)
