Sorry that I cannot answer this question since we live 3-4 hours driving distance away from Tahoe. I believe that your best bet is still to try finding good deals through internet.

We generally leave Friday night, stay in a motel for 2 nights. Sometimes a group of friends would rent a nice cabin for the weekend and everyone shares the expenses.
