i have been to Fairbanks before but was not aware of its fame on Aurora - maybe it is the best place within USA. Basically aurora can be watched around the world at high latitudes. However, since the north magnetic pole, responsible for the phenomenon, is near Ellesmere Island (Canada), plus the air quality and other factors, the area of a few hundred km centered by Yellowknife becomes the best choice, where the northern light may cover the entire sky, and literary dancing with time.
