i stayed at hilton cancun last christmas, no problem to carry bottled water from wal-mart through the lobby:). hilton cancun's beach is terrible (narrow with strong waves when we were there, and full of big rocks) so we spend a lot of time in the pool. playa del carmen is a nice place to visit, especially if you plan to do some shopping for survivors...
