It's safe and pleasant to drive in the Cancun area where you'll enjoy both the crystal Caribbean Sea and the luxuriant rain forest.
The car rental there is similar to that of U.S. in terms of rate and process. (you'll find in Cancun that over 80% tourists there are from U.S.!)
