A majority of maps I found are on the internet and hiking reports from other hikers. Last year I got a ton of hiking maps on the interent for my Banff and Jasper expedition, although people complain it is hard to find detail trail map for these NPs unless you buy them in the NP.
But you have to buy a compass with scale ruler.
I am talking about long hiking. For the short hiking like only couple miles, it is good enough to use your pointer watch if it is sunny day, but for the overcast day there are still a variety of ways.
