故都 Hue (顺化 - about 800km to the south of Hanoi) has another "forbidden city", which is almost a 1/3 - 1/4 replica of that in Beijing. Unfortunately it was mostly destroyed during the war, but the gate (午门) etc are still in good shape.

On the other hand Vietnam also has Champa cultural sites, such as Myson (美山), which are very close to that of Angkor.

After all, Vietnam was subj to Chinese occupation for about 1000 years until about AD 1100.
