The Whittier was a top secret navy base during cold war. At that time Whittier even was not on maps.

When I was in Valdez, I had a struggle either to take ferry to Whittier or to take car back to Richardson Hwy and then take Glenn Hwy (Rt. 1). Finally I decided to go Glenn Hwy to see more Alaska's landscapes. That was a very nice trip along with quite amazing valley views.

Apparently your ferry experience was quite impressive. I wish some day I will go back there to experience what you had.
