我LD的UK签证是不是没戏了？

My wife recently applied general UK visitor's visa. We purchased priority service.

We mailed out my application package to UK visa decision center in New York on Sep 05 Fri though UPS next day air. Actually we mailed from New York, so it doesn't matter we used next day air or not.

UPS tracking shows that the package is delivered and signed on Monday morning Sep 08. But we only received email from UK visa office on Wed Sep 10 morning that told me the package is opened. The priority service we bought is also acknowledged. But they also said: "for all priority applications as of 08 September 2014, Non-settlement applications takes 5 business days'.

5 business days is way more than what we expect from priority service. Normally it takes at most 2 days for Non-settlement applications if the priority service is purchased. We sent email to ask visa application status every day. The only response we got so far is on Sep 11: "found that your application has not yet been assessed by an Entry Clearance Officer (ECO)"

This is a joke already. Our flight to London is Sep 18 early morning. We only have 2 days left, We use UPS overnight for my returned package.

But We want to fight to the end. What are our options now?

1. If we call for checking visa status on Monday, will it help? We want to call anyway. This is another way UK govt makes money. They charge about $2 per min for this kind of calls.
2. If we on't get anything on Tuesday, should we go to UK consulate's office in New York on Wed? We are in NYC anyway.

The whole UK visa process is a joke now. My wife went to France consulate office in NYC to apply her Schengen visitor visa, and she got it the next day.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
