how safe is 蒙古?

I will go back to china in May and would like do some traveling in China. How safe is 蒙古 if I go by myself? How about Tibet? I am not a novice traveler but never traveled by myself eithter. I am hesitant about tour group because lack of freedom. Any suggestion? Thanks a lot in advance.
