I'm a Londoner; here I work, write, teach and nurture.
I've written poetry throughout my life and some of my poems are published in printed anthologies or on online poetry sites. I live in London with my husband, children and two very lovely, crazy cats. I'm a working mum write whenever I find the time between the chaos of family life. Some of my poems are autobiographical but not all are, if you read and leave a comment about my poems I'm happy to return the honour and read your poems in return.
In answer to the question 'why do you write free verse?' I suppose there are a few reasons - firstly because the modern world and events in it can often feel fairly random and free verse seems a way to reflect and explore that idea.
Rhymed and metred poems were the only accepted form of poetry for so long and the rigid rules they follow reflect the more binding social conventions of past times too.
However having said that, I do sometimes write rhymed metred poems as a way of exploring the craft of writing and also as I'm someone who tries to organise their thoughts sometimes rhymed, metred poems are a good way to do this. I sometimes write 'broken verse' or 'broken sonnets' where the metre is deliberately awry or the rhyme isn't consistent as a way to reflect disorganised events.
But I mainly write free verse because it reflects the modern world that I live in and write about.
