Sophisticated but lacking vision, a very good comment.

But one shouldn't expect much vision from a youth.  He's probably more innocent than visionary.

I think he was a character rather similar to the real life Hai Zi (the poet) or Van Gogh, a very truthful being in a fake world. One needs some justification to live on. HZ and VG had their art carrying their lives along. Yet most people don't have that kind of capacities. Still, at the end HZ and VG chose to "leave", for one thing, the art vision had been fulfilled. For the other, "nothing is eternal, art either", thus said Van Gogh.

阿豪 had the sophistication as to recognize the falsity or untruthfulness of his family and his world, therefore in his "vision", his departure shouldn't do any harm to the reality of his world: They didn't really care about him anyway.  Or, if his departure would eventually do harm, it was to be their karma, and one shouldn't run away from one's karma.

Therefore, I think  阿豪 was at least consistent, though like you said, a little narrow -minded.

But somehow it seems pointless to make such a movie. It appears that the director was bothered by reality and wanted us to share his pain.
