I didn't quite appreciate this line either, but I think it reflects more the limitation of the era but the quality of the poet or the poem .  The poet was in a process of speculation (20 year of age then).

河殇 is conclusive. It is short-sighted rubbish. It shouldn't be compared to this poem.

As well, this poem contains an extraordinarily beautiful stanza: 你是穿黑色衣服的人 ...

You can't find this quality in an artist less than a genius.

By and large, I agree with 張清華 ( I don't know who he is) on Hai Zi (with some less important disagreements):
