I don't it is necessary to spend 2 nights in Bern. would recomme

from Lucern you could take a boat trip to Pilatus (you could also stop at Weggis if you want to visit Rigi).  the harbour of the ferry is just in front of the main entrance of Lucern's railway station.  scenery along this trip is breath-taking
