Shopping in Rome

I am going to Rome next week for a business trip and wondering if anybody could provide any tps on where to shop? I am thinking to buy some leather goods (handbags and shoes) and jewelry. Tour book says January usually has sales, do I need to go to special outlet for the sales or any stores will do.
