To be elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame (ITHF), a player must meet specific eligibility criteria and receive a high percentage of affirmative votes.
Eligibility Requirements for Players
To be considered in the Player category, a candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Be an active competitor in the sport within the last 20 years prior to consideration.
- Not have been a significant factor on the ATP or WTA Tour within five calendar years before election (meaning they are eligible five years after effectively retiring).
- Have a distinguished record of competitive achievement at the highest international level, demonstrating integrity, sportsmanship, and character.
Players gain automatic consideration and skip the Enshrinee Nominating Committee review if they meet either of these high-performance benchmarks:
- Won at least three major singles titles and held the World Number 1 ranking for a combined total of at least 13 weeks; OR
- Won at least five major singles titles.
- For doubles players, the criteria are at least 12 major doubles titles and World Number 1 for 52 weeks total; or at least 15 major doubles titles.
