Definition: A trade kicker -- more properly called a "trade bonus" -- is a clause that increases a player's salary in the event of a trade.

Trade kickers are one of the factors that can make NBA trades so difficult to complete. For example, during the 2009-10 season, Devin Brown of the Hornets was able to block a trade because he refused to waive a kicker in his contract.

Also Known As: Trade Bonus

Examples: Carmelo Anthony's contract reportedly contains a trade kicker of 5% or $1 million -- whichever is less.
