Hu*****and ignored wife's plea for help
The hu*****and of a woman who was desperately asking him to rescue her from a pervert, not only ignored her pleas but also refused to appear in court.
Shin Min Daily News reported that in July 2007, Chinese national Mrs Lin Ya Hua, who is in her 40s, was at her flat along Ang Mo Kio Ave 1, overseeing renovations being made to her home.
When she was about to leave, a renovation worker appeared at her doorstep, pulled down his pants and exposed himself.
Mrs Lin was so traumatized, she immediately rushed to the lift but to her horror, the man followed and entered the lift with her.
She tried not to look at him in the eye and as soon as the lift doors opened, Mrs Lin pelted out and ran towards the car park where her hu*****and was waiting.
But instead of helping her, he drove away.
Realising that the man was still around, she immediately called her hu*****and to ask for his help again. He then told Mrs Lin to wait for the man to leave before going upstairs, but did not return to rescue her.
In a last desperate attempt, she called her sister who informed the police. The man was caught and charged.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, Mrs Lin's hu*****and refused to appear in court as a witness, claiming that it was too troublesome and a waste of time.
Investigators telephoned him numerous times and finally issued a public order, demanding him to appear in court, which he finally did.
When asked why he sped off, he explained that he was very busy that day and when his wife told him that a man had flashed himself at her, he did not think much of it. He felt that his wife was not in danger.
He also claimed that he did not have time to assist the police with investigations, therefore he did not report the incident to them after receiving Mrs Lin's phone call.
The judge who was in charge of the case reprimanded the hu*****and for not showing any concern to Mrs Lin. He also told him off for placing his job, and not his wife, as first priority.
The judge also expressed that his reactions were abnormal.
"I do not blame him"
Mrs Lin told Lianhe Wanbao that she does not blame her hu*****and for turning a blind eye. Neither does she feel that her hu*****and does not care for her.
She told the Chinese evening daily that her hu*****and and his brother own a family business. They leave for work at 6am and do not come home until midnight.
"He's so preoccupied with work because he cares for the family and wants to provide. Once he gets busy, he doesn't even know what day it is.
"He's like that but this doesn't mean he is not concerned over his wife and children," explained Mrs Lin.
She also explained that he did not return to help her that day because his mind was in a state of confusion over work and probably did not understand her when she was relating the incident to him.
The worker who exposed himself was found guilty and fined $2000.
Although it has been over a year since the incident occurred, Mrs Lin remembers his appearance.
He is in his 30s, around 1.75m tall and has a round face. He has a muscular build and does not wear glasses.
