The time is spent mostly waiting in line. The boarder custom inspector notmally spends only a few minutes with you, based on my own experiences. Waiting time could be 20 minutes or up to over an hour. I don't remember I had ever been asked to get out of the car. The common questions are where are you heading and how long are you going to stay (did you stay there).
