If you arrival at LAX in the morning, you can visit Getty Musumn off FWY 405 and then visit near by interesting places. Probably you don't care about beaches, then some places just a drive-by, such as Holywood Bld., Beverly Hills, Chinatown etc. Take a look at the AAA tour book find your list.
THen you drive down to SD. After your SD visit, you can take I-15 north,so that you don't need to go back LA.

You better take Vegas as your base when you visit GrandCabyon and DeathValley, since vegas is about in the middle of those places. On your way(or back from) to GC, you can consider to stay Laughlin, (to be continue)
