在 18 世纪中叶，英国陶工未能成功制造出硬质瓷器（如东亚和德国Meissen瓷器所制造的那样），但他们发现骨灰是一种有用的添加剂，可以添加到他们的软质瓷器混合物中，增加强度。这成为伦敦 Bow 瓷器厂（大约从 1747 年开始运营）的标准，并传播到其他一些英国工厂。
由英国陶艺家 Josiah Spode 开发的骨瓷以其极高白度和半透明度以及非常高的机械强度和抗碎裂性而闻名。
Bone china 骨瓷几乎是英国瓷器的代名词。

英国瓷器公司Royal Daulton的瓷偶是很多瓷器收藏爱好者心爱之物, 每个骨瓷模型都是根据真人建模的。
 

工艺精湛, 人物生动形象, 很多经典人物都有故事, 每个人物都有自己的名字. 历史上英国的瓷艺家在瓷土中加入动物骨粉成分使得瓷器的toughness大增, 瓷器可以做的很薄, 颜色更纯净,所以英国瓷有个别名叫骨瓷, bone china. 鲜艳华丽的人物造型甚至是彼时女孩心目中的偶像, 那个年代的芭比娃娃, 作为自己的梦想而持有一生.

有趣的是关于这个卖气球瓷偶的这段文字(并非每个瓷偶都有这样的描述), 这个瓷偶设计的灵感来自于

诗人Rose Fyleman的一首诗: The Balloon Man ; 而我猜 Rose Fyleman的灵感一定是来自于一个卖气球的真人.

这首诗的格式与著名的" Scarborough fair"经典歌曲非常像,  我就用这首诗写了一首歌, 请文学城网友演唱.
