I think

religions are too abstract. You can't help but judging religions by the way people practice them, especially for organized religions. The leadership plays pivotal roles.

I think a big part of enlightenment is tolerance and respect for all humanity. Christianity always preached helping the poor, etc. however it was always excluing people outside of the religion. crusades, inquisitions, heresies, just name a few.
