郁孤台（2）下清江水， （3）
中间多少行人泪！
西北望长安（4），
可怜（5）无数山（6）！
青山遮不住，
毕竟东流去。 （7）
江晚正愁余， （8）
山深闻鹧鸪。（9）
Water of Qing River under the YuGu Tower （2）,
Among it how many tear drops of the traveler!
Looking west towards Changan,
But what a shame I see many a mountain! （6）
The green mountains can never be the barriers, （7）
After all, the river keeps flowing eastwards.
Now at dusk the river leaves me in sorrow,
Listening to the partridge from the hollow.
(6) Many a mountain: Those who had surrendered to the invading force of barbarian (金）
（7）An allusion to the trend of fighting against the barbarian can not be stopped.

①造口：即皂口，镇名。在今江西省万安县西南60里处。 ②郁孤台：古台名，在今江西赣州市西南的贺兰山上，因“隆阜郁然，孤起平地数丈”而得名。
③清江：赣江与袁江合流处旧称清江。
④长安：今陕西省西安市；为汉唐故都。这里指沦于敌手的宋国都城。
⑤可怜：可惜。
⑥无数山：这里指投降派（也可理解为北方沦陷国土）。
⑦毕竟东流去：暗指力主抗金的时代潮流不可阻挡。
⑧愁余：使我感到忧愁。
⑨鹧鸪（zhègū）：鸟名，传说它的叫声像“行不得也哥哥”，啼声凄苦。
