I think you should order another book from Amazon: digital photo

for dummy.  it contains all the information about digitial cameras (all different types) and basic to in-depth concepts of photography, soup to nuts.  I highly recommend it, even you don't want to get a dslr for now.  I bought it before I bought my dslr camera, and it really helped me to get my foot in the door.  Good luck!
