our IT person could not recover the files (files recovered by him were not readable).  He sent it to a professional place.  All the files, including photos were recovered by them.  It costed over $500.  Don't give up yet.  If you need, I can ask our IT person the contact information for that professional place.  I backup my files with two portable harddrives now.
