If cost is an issue, Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 is almost as good, and cost A LOT less. In fact, you can almost get both Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 and Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 for the cost of Canon 24-70mm f/2.8.
