If you pay $1k, your 140 case will be processed in 15 business days (which may take up to 6 months if you don't have premium processing). Then if it is approved, great, go ahead and file 485. But if it is denied, you can still appeal. If your lawyer think that your case is strong, and it will not likely to be denied, then premium processing is the way to go.
