Although I experienced the Cultural Revolution years, I don’t remember many things because I was young. For example, at the beginning of the Cultural Revolution in 1966, my father was raided by rebels who ransacked my home. A wanted order was posted on the door, and they were preparing to arrest my father and denounce him. Fortunately, my dad had a premonition that something was wrong. Before the storm came, he fled to a comrade's house in Beijing and hid for a year.

My mother was very scared at that time. I was only 3 years old in 1966. Fortunately, there is nothing valuable in my house. The original collection of books had been burned as firewood by my mother for three days and three nights when she was destroying the Four Olds, and was basically burned out. My mother doesn’t know where my father has gone. Because my father used to work underground, telling my mother that there is no news is good news. So my mother could only pray silently, hoping that my father would be safe.

I later went to university and worked at Baosteel. When I got home, I notified my mother in advance. My dad said not to tell me in advance, just come back by yourself, which is safer. He said that because we have many enemies in the family, he was afraid that if the news leaked out, someone would Revenge halfway. This statement is because my father was a member of the land reform team, and almost every local farmer in Jiangsu and Zhejiang was a member of the Kuomintang army. Almost every household in our village is a soldier in the Kuomintang army. As soon as the Communist Party came, they took off their military uniforms and returned to the countryside to become farmers.

My father used to be sworn brothers with the chief of the Central Unification Secret Service in Changzhou. My father’s public identity is also a statistical investigator of the Central Unification Bureau (actually he is also a Central Unification Secret Service agent). Moreover, my grandfather and adoptive great-grandfather surnamed Wang were both former 19th Route Army soldiers. An officer, how come in 1949, my father suddenly became a communist again, so when many villagers saw my father, they felt that he was mysterious and very scared, because my father knew their ins and outs.

In fact, my father did not make things difficult for the villagers. Almost every household was classified as a poor peasant. At that time, people were rated as landlords, rich peasants, counterrevolutionaries, and bad elements. Rightists were bad elements, referred to as landlords, rich, counterrevolutionaries, and bad rightists. The bad rightists were added after the anti-rightist movement was expanded after the suppression of the counterrevolutionary movement. During the land reform, they were rated as landlords, rich peasants, and middle peasants. Poor peasants, farm laborers and other classes. The poorer you are, the more revolutionary you are.

In the past, people called my family a landlord and my grandmother a landowner. In fact, my grandmother worked as a domestic in Shanghai. Because although my grandfather was a junior officer, he loved gambling, smoked opium, and played with women. He was a man with all five vices. So my grandma had no choice but to go out to work and help cook meals for a wealthy family. My grandma was a good cook. After all, having lived in Shanghai, my grandma still knows a few words and can say how are you.

So my dad returned to the local area to carry out land reform and revealed his identity as an underground member of the Chinese Communist Party. My grandma also became the director of the village women's federation and was very familiar with the task force sent to carry out women's liberation. Later, the tractor drivers invited by the village during the busy farming season were sent to my house for dinner receptions in the village, and my grandma cooked.

Although my grandma has a rural registered permanent residence, after the land reform, my dad first worked in the Wujin County Public Security Bureau, then worked as a clerk in the court, and then as a tax collector in the tax bureau, so my grandma never worked in farming, even though my dad later She quit her job and went to Shanghai to see a doctor and then went to Jiangsu Agricultural College as a transfer student to go to college. After graduating from college, she worked as a technician in the Gaochun Agricultural Bureau. My grandma had never worked in the farmland.

After the Cultural Revolution began, some villagers were motivated by jealousy, some had grudges between previous generations, and some wanted to frame my dad. Report letters kept coming, and my dad was constantly under investigation, and later he said he was ill at home. Until 1974, Ji Fang, the then chairman of the Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, served as the commander of the Fourth Military Division of the New Fourth Army in Central Suzhou, the deputy governor of Jiangsu Province, etc. In 1978, he was elected as the vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Ji Fang was my father's old superior and directly I know that my father is a secret intelligence worker of the underground party and a member of the Peasants and Workers Democratic Party.

Ji Fang personally wrote a letter to the Wujin County Committee to prove that my father was a member of the Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (I have a copy of this letter at home). However, since my father was arrested by the Central Bureau of Statistics of the Kuomintang, it is unclear whether he has betrayed him, but there is no evidence to prove it. My father had betrayed his secrets and comrades, so he asked the Wujin County Party Committee to rearrange his work to implement policies at the appropriate time. Therefore, with Ji Fang's direct intervention, the Wujin County Party Committee allowed my father to choose any job in Wujin County.

At that time, my father was in poor health and was already disheartened after the disaster. He chose Beigang Middle School to be a biology teacher, intending to focus on taking care of his family and educating his children for the rest of his life. This is why I was able to receive a good middle school education later. I left the countryside in 1977 and first studied in Changzhou No. 10 Middle School. Finally, through comradeship, my father found Shi Shaoxi, who was the principal of Changzhou Middle School at the time, and enrolled me in Changzhou Middle School in 1979.
