Manhattan is not really a true representation of USA any more. When we visit Manhattan, we felt like "foreigners." I am not saying that is good or bad, but quite unique in terms of life style.
Most Asian big cities are like that now including Tokyo, Taipei, Hong Kong, and many more in mainland China. So in a sense, visiting Manhattan does give us a feeling of visiting those big cities in Asia, even though you are right that Manhattan has got this life style first.
I was being sarcastic when saying Manhattan is the future of other cities in the US. I hope just the opposite. For sure, I like the Texan or Western life style much more than the big cities, although it was fun to visit and vacation there.
