You cannot count your parents as your dependents

enen though they live with you. I heard some people count them as renting a room from your house, this way their income is even lower.

On the other hand, I don't think they qualify for Social security because they never worked in the US, they can only qualify for Medicaid, which is for low income population. Quite a good welfare for Chinese parents.
