Jack Cafferty is only a second-rate journalist; his remarks are simply not worth being taken that seriously, even if he did mean to insult the Chinese people without any ambiguity.
Besides, why get so upset if the insult is clearly not true? I know the Chinese people aren't goons and thugs, so when I heard what Jack had said I wasn't bothered by it. In fact, I thought it was so ridiculous that, therefore, he must have meant the Chinese government (and I still think so). What I fear is that your loud protests only demonstrate to most Americans that may be there is truth in the "goons and thugs" remark.
Furthermore, if you thought what Jack Cafferty said about the Chinese government was harsh, you should have heard the frequent attacks he made on the Bush administration and the Republican Party. What was he to do, apologize to the American people? And would you believe that the American people couldn't careless?
To an American audience, CNN's coverage isn't biased. It's basically in the mainstream. The Chinese can condemn CNN all they want, but at the same time they should be asking themselves what they can do to start fostering a more positive public opinion in the United States in the long term. Angry protests and loud voices without the support of the mainstream will only make things worse.
Pies don't fall from the sky, but a chip has fallen on your shoulder. It's time that you brush it off yourself instead of waiting for Jack Cafferty to come along to bump it off.
