there's actually a lot of noise around free trade right now. the US is imposing more severe tarriff or quota for chinese produced gloss paper now, i think.
plus, if more farmers are actually farming instead of migrating into cities where they have no social securities, labor supply for manufacturing jobs will decrease and cost will therefore increase. This way, China will have less comparative advantage for manufactured goods and walmart will see more vietanmese or turkish products, which is what the americans want anyways.
thought the japanese subsidize their pig farmers, no?
