how much should I pay my friend

I have a friend who is a handyman. I landed him a couple of projects through which he made about $5000. He helped me fix a few things around the house yesterday and it took him 5 hours. I insisted on paying him but he won't accept any money from me. I plan to buy him some present. How much money should I spend? Thanks!
