Well, UBC is close to China and weather is much better. However, job market in Vancouver sucks. You may need to think about moving to the east after your kid graduates. Plus the housing price in Vacounver is very ridiculesly high.
Queens is about 2-3 hours drive from Toronto. Cold in the winter. Extra 5 hours if you go back to China. Job market is much better in Toronto Area. And housing price is relatively low in Toronto and maybe even lower in Kingston (where the Queens locates).
If you plan to move back with your kid, then UBC. If you (and your kid) decide to stay and work here, then Queens.
