Palmtree,
Good to know that you're using that book already and your kid will benefit from your knowlege on natural interaction between mother and child, and I agree with the viewpoints of the author.
Thank you for your compliment.

Regarding putting into practice of those skills from reading, I don't have an immediate answer as I am also groping for it. However i do have some thinking on it:

Combination of intensive reciting/reading to extensive reciting/reading: reading-a-lot (extensive) will enlarge vacabulary (extensive); while reading deeply on one passage until you can easily use every word of it (intensive) will help the spoken English, and you might purposefully use them in your daily conversation. It might be hard to adapt the content to conversation naturally, you still can consciously use them, like, telling your friend the story on what you read. Also, you might combine some spoken english material in between (reading of NCE), stick to one conversation passage for several days and consciously use them in daily conversaton.
This is only my own thinking and any comments are welcom.

P.S. one net friend (you or eyeyey) mentioned that even Americans are practicing public speaking in spare time, they gather together to speak about the topic they preared, I couln't find that post (if you know, can you add more details on that kind of activities?)
