Many things can buttonhole a light sleeper at the entry to the land of Nod:
noise, light, a bad conscience, a full stomach, stress over money, work, or the
worst, the future. It wouldn't help counting sheep, wondering why the chicken
crosses the road, whether God exists, or why bad things happen to good people or
vice versa. Muscles could be so sore from overtraining that no amount of
adenosine and melatonin overcome. It gets harder as one grows older, I heard,
and I am thankful for every good night's sleep. "Out like a light" is ideal.
