A burden of one’s own choice is not felt.

When a person willingly takes on a task or responsibility, it becomes less burdensome, as they are motivated by their own choice. This proverb suggests that taking ownership of a situation can make it easier to handle.

The proverb highlights the psychological difference between a task you choose to do and one you are forced to do. For example, caring for a sick parent is a heavy responsibility, but if you choose to do it out of love and duty, you are more likely to bear it without feeling overwhelmed.

When you choose a path, whether it's a passion project or a difficult personal commitment, you feel a sense of control and ownership. This ownership makes the effort feel more like a "labor of love" than a burdensome chore. It implies that when we have control over our decisions, the journey is easier, as we are more invested in the outcome.
