As kids, we used to gather at the center of the village, where the dirt roads
met, to hang around and play games. Decades later, I discovered the jiu-jitsu
mat and another crowd. It feels like a grown-up village square.
People from all walks of life come to play. Size, race, gender, disability, and age don't matter.
No one cares about party affliation or religion. We leave our street identities,
chefs, bankers, police, plumbers, doctors, nurses, artists, engineers, baristas,
CEOs, etc., at the door. The game is similar to chess, we try to win, get a
great workout, and tap to come back smarter another day. Here I pick up the vibe
of my long-lost youth.
