APAD: Great oaks from little acorns grow

Meaning:

   The proverb `great oaks from little acorns grow' puts forward the idea that

   great enterprises may have modest beginnings.

 

   It is intended to be an encouragement to persist with small efforts as they

   may build to grander ones in time - similar to the more modern `a journey of

   a thousand miles begins with a single step`.

`A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step' might be modern to the

English but it was ancient Chinese wisdom.

 

Once potty-trained, my toddler attended the Little Acorn School, a daycare

attached to a local Presbyterian Church close to where I worked. The name was

likely inspired by the proverb, but I've never guessed.
