In human society we use titles, names,or other definitions to identify certain figures, roles; like king or queen etc.  woman, man, girl and boy in stead of awkwardly saying female human, male little human;

Humans also shared or assgined all kinds titles and names to the animal kingdoms.  Like the head of the ant or bee family is the queen;  Elephants,  form matriarchal societies, the lead female is the Matriarch; so on so forth.

Here I list a few; please add if this has brought up your interest.

Let's started from deers, seems like the light-weighted deer like herbivores shared this appellation.

Female: antelope/deer/caribou(rain deer) is called doe, even the tiny hamster or mouse is a doe. remember the song "Do-Re-Mi"  from the movie [The Sound of Music]?   DO, a deer, a female deer?  and the male counter part is called buck

Seems more heavy-built herbivore females carry the badge---cow! cattle/elephant/giraffe/camel/hippo etc. while there is an exception, a female crocodile is also a cow but an all type eater. The males are bull.

Dog: b*itch dog

Fox: vixen dog

b*itch and vixen are also used as insulting or defiant wording,  exclusively for woman

leopard: leopardess, leopard

Lion: lioness, lion

tiger: tigeress tiger

chicken and some other birds: hen, cock

salmon: hen cock, this one sounds fancy for a fish

pig: sow, boar

zebra/horse: mare stallion

goose: goose gander

duck: duck/hen drake

wolf: b*itch / she-wolf dog

bear: sow / she-bear boar
