APAD: Discretion is the better part of valor
Discretion is the better part of valor.
It is wise to be careful and not show unnecessary bravery.
The Titan submersible incident has been daunting the world since last week . Is it worth to risk lives for unknown exploration? Was the faulty hull material induced the catastrophe? Wasn't the material questioned by other experts?
I 'd say it is not worth to risk lives to proof the material uncertainty. Technologies have enabled humans to minimized such risks. What is behind the scene? I learned not to show unnecessary bravery again.
The wealthy passengers might consider it a joy ride with little knowledge about the risks. The business owners might not think much about the consquence of material failure after all until it happened so one co-owner and his son also went down. I guess there is no damage control can be done under such extreme condition.
James Cameron has made 33 dives himself to the Titanic wreck. The world knows him as a movie maker. But he is not necessarily a pure romanticist. He is also a scienctist, engineer in several areas.
He has taken more chances than most people, guess he must evaluate and manage the risks well in every move.
knowledge is power & discretion is the better part of valor
