An elementary student’s view on recent news

I don't know why and how this started

something chokes me from deep inside

I can't cry and often afraid at the night

For all the blame lurks there to jump upon me

But in New York I lived for all my life

just as my grandpa and grandma

Every day I can't wait for the news to announce

The day that I can be back with my friends

Rose, Emily, Jorge, Shaquita and Jamar

You know how good to lie on the grass

And share the food from our lunch boxes

But I don't want to be the ones that my history teacher told me

beaten up and tortured just because they were what they were

for culture, for color, for appearances

No. I don't think people will let it happen again

Next time if I see a man was kicked on the train

I will go forward and hold him and say

Don't hit him. You are hitting My brother
