Some little things I remembered as a graduate student

Many years ago I came over to the States to pursue my graduate study. My first impressions of this country was very good.  I see lots of trees and grass, even wild animals like squirrel. It was so fascinating!

However not for long, I began to feel lots of pressure from my study. At that time I was a teaching assistant (TA) in a laboratory.  Even I got a decent score in my TOFEL test, but what feel most lacking during my TA career is my English skills, particularly my listening comprehension. 

One day, I asked where one of students come from. She replied as "Maryland", and I couldn't get what she said at all. If she had said "马里兰” I would've understood.  But her reply sounds like "麦若愣”。 We talked over and over again and finally I got what she meant. What a embarrassment for me! 

There are many other stories during that time. Hope I can share more in the future!
