The movie stars Spencer Tracy（Stanley T. Banks）in the titular role, Joan Bennett（Ellie Banks）, Elizabeth Taylor（Kay Banks）, Don Taylor（Buckley Dunstan）. It was adapted by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett from the novel by Edward Streeter, and directed by Vincente Minnelli.
