This is IN THE NEWS in VOA Special English.

The London Olympics are less than one hundred days away. Across the world, many competitors still have to qualify (是shuwa, 不是i) for the sixteen days of competition. Others are entering the final weeks of training.

Three hundred thousand people are expected to travel to the British capital for the Summer Olympic Games. The opening ceremonies are on July twenty-seventh.

Wednesday marked the one-hundred-day point. Sebastian /sɪˈbæs tʃən/  Coe -- the British runner who won two Olympic gold medals -- is chairman of the London 2012 organizing committee.

This is SCIENCE IN THE NEWS in VOA Special English. I'm Shirley Griffith.

And I'm Bob Doughty. Spring has returned to the United States. The sky is blue, the grass is green and many plants(没听到l音?) are flowering. Spring can be a beautiful time of year. But it is especially(听到卷舌了) troublesome for people with asthma. High pollen(是读a音) levels can keep asthma sufferers from enjoying spring flowers and the weather.

May is Asthma Awareness Month in the United States. And May first is World Asthma Day. The Global Initiative for Asthma, or GINA, organizes the event(是I音。听这像长i短读) every year. GINA is a joint effort of the World Health Organization and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of America'(听着像读的American)s National Institutes of Health
