Animal metaphors

 

从用动物作比喻中可以看到一些中西文化的差异。

最近常听到”underdog“ 一词，in GOP presidential candidates debate and commentory, in sports etc.

Underdog (competition), a participant in a fight, conflict, or game who is not expected to win

Watchdog: a dog that barks to alert its owners of an intruder's presence

英文中这些与狗有关的词不是 insulting words。

与狗有关的中文词句多半带贬义，侮辱，骂人之类：狗胆包天，走狗。。。。

与狼有关的词句多半带贬义：狼狈为奸，色狼，狼心狗肺，白眼狼，中山狼，豺狼虎豹。。。。

“Wolf”is not used much as metaphors.

与猪有关的词也是带贬义：笨猪，懒猪，肥猪

英文也用 fat pig

与猴有关的词表示聪明：孙猴子  英文有：monkey brain 不是smart，是有点spaced out
