to be noted there are three kinds of SIM cards

standard, micro and nano. most if not all of the smart phones use either micro or nano, but the card on your old phone is probably the standard card. if that is the case, you need to cut the standard card into the shape of micro or nano, depending on what kind of card your new smart phone uses. No need to change the plan just because you need a new phone.
