how much should I spend to buy a house

My hu*****and and I are tryimg to buy our first house. Here is our situation: two kids, one 5, one 1.5 yrs old. The day care fee for younger one is $1000/mon. My daughter is in a private kindergarten, with fee $1000/mon. We plan to let her go to public school next fall. we two have a salary about 150K/yr. We live in mid west. we have about 50K savings now. I have no ideal about what kind price/house we should look at, any one has any suggestions? Thanks.
