Are kitchen counters safe to stand on?

This is probably a silly question.

I have stood on my kitchen counters multiple times, each time 20 minutes to half an hour.  I never had any problem. But is this safe?  It is easier to stand there to reach the top of the cabinets than to use a ladder (the ladder will add some distance). 

I am 118 lbs.
