My parents also said similar things to me and my sister. After I had my own child, I had huge problems understanding how my parents could behave that way.  I had yelled at my kid five or six times in 14 years, and I remember every time and I regret every time.  So I don't understand how my parents can be so cruel.  And they don't have a son.
